Arnaout Mohamad
Chair
Mohamad Arnaout received his M.S. in Electrical and Electronics from the Lebanese University,
Beirut, Lebanon, in 2007, his M.E. in Microelectronics and Electrical Engineering from Paul
Sabatier, Toulouse, France, in 2008, and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University
of Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France, in 2011. In 2011, Dr. Arnaout was a postdoctoral researcher
with CNES and ONERA laboratories, Toulouse, France. From 2014 to 2018, he was an assistant
professor and associate chair with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the
Lebanese International University, Beirut, Lebanon. Since October 2018, he has been an associate
professor and chairperson of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department of the
International University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon. Dr. Arnaout is an IEEE member in dielectric
and power societies since 2013 and actually he is the Chair of the IEEE - Lebanon Joint Chapter,
IE13/PE31/CAS04/PEL35. His research interests include the electrostatic discharge, fault
analysis, development of electric power system tools, and electric vehicles. Dr. Arnaout received
the award of the best Ph.D. thesis from GEET Toulouse and the Novela award from Toulouse
municipality in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
Hiba El Cheikh
Vice Chair
Hiba Al-Sheikh received her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the
University of Balamand, Lebanon, in 2002 and 2004, respectively. She was awarded two
student excellence awards from the faculty of engineering as well as the university founder
award for scoring the highest GPA. In 2003, she was selected to participate in the Young
Ambassadors Program for Leadership Skills in Carlisle, PA, USA. In 2015, she received her
Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering specialty Automation and Signal Analysis from
Université de Rouen Normandie, IRSEEM/ESIGELEC, France. Dr. Al-Sheikh has more than 18
years of work experience over which she held different academic and administrative
positions at several universities in Lebanon and abroad. She is currently Dean of Faculty of
Engineering and Information Technology at City University, Tripoli, Lebanon. She has
supervised and moderated several undergraduate and graduate projects and MS theses and
is co-supervising Ph.D. students at Université d’Aix Marseille and Université de Rouen
Normandie. She is serving as guest editor of special issue in Processes MDPI journal. Dr. Al-
Sheikh is a member of the OEA, an IEEE member, and a member of IEEE Power Electronics
Society (PELS). She served as a member of the scientific committee of the OEA and as the
Counselor of CityU IEEE student branch. She is currently the Vice-Chair of IEEE Lebanon Joint
Chapter, IE13/PE31/CAS04/PEL35. Her research interests include fault detection, power
electronics systems, hybrid vehicles, hybrid energy systems, and renewable energy systems.
Jean Sawma
Secretary
Jean Sawma received the diploma and the master’s degree in electrical engineering from the
Ecole Supérieure d’Ingenieurs de Beyrouth (ESIB), Lebanon and the Ph.D. degree in electrical
engineering from Ecole Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Beyrouth and University of Cergy-Pontoise,
France in 2016. Since 2019, Jean has been working as a full-time assistant professor in the
electrical department at ESIB. His current research interests include Model Predictive Control
(MPC), the control of power electronics and electrical motors and FPGA SoC based embedded
control.
Abdallah Kassem
Treasurer
Abdallah Kassem has previously worked as research assistant at Polystim Neurotechnologies Laboratory of the
Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, Canada. He still cooperates with this laboratory doing some researches.
He received his B.S in Microelectronics from University of Quebec in Montreal in 1992, his M.Sc and Ph.D in
microelectronic from Ecole polytechnique de Montreal in 1996 and 2004 respectively. From 1996 to 2000, he taught
computer architecture, microprocessors and digital electronic courses and laboratories at AUB, LAU in Lebanon.
Dr. Kassem joined Notre Dame University-Louaize in 2005 as an assistant professor in the Electrical and Computer
Engineering department. He was promoted to the rank of associate professor in 2011. His research interests
include microelectronics design and test, VLSI, semiconductor device modeling and simulation, microprocessors/
microcontrollers, re-used system design, engineering education, m-Heath and biomedical engineering. Dr. Kassem is
a Professional Engineer in Lebanon (Ordre des Ingénieurs du Liban). He is a senior member of the Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) and Organizer and TPC member of many IEEE International conferences.
Elio Aoun
Student Activities Coordinator
Elio Aoun is an accomplished young professional who is passionate about engineering. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering in Computer and Communications Engineering from Notre Dame University Louaize in 2020, and is currently in the final stages of completing his Master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the same institution.
Elio's leadership skills are evident in his impressive track record of organizing successful events and activities. He served as the chair of the IEEE NDU Student Branch for two consecutive years, where he led the organization to great success. Elio is currently the IEEE Young Professionals Lebanon Chair, and he has also served as the Student Activities Coordinator for the IEEE - Lebanon Joint Chapter, IE13/PE31/CAS04/PEL35 since 2021.
Elio's research interests are diverse, but primarily focused on Embedded Systems, Electronic Design, Computer Vision, Computer Networks, Cloud Computing, and IT Service Management. He is also dedicated to sharing his knowledge and experience with others, having organized several workshops on various topics such as MATLAB, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and Cloud Computing.
Mohamad Kassab

Engr. Mohamad Kassab is a telecom engineer manager in Nour El-Hoda for trading and
communica:on (Connext ISP). He earned his ABET accredita:on Bachelor of computer and
communica:on of engineering from Notre Dame University-Louaize. Since 2018, he work as
Social Media coordina:on in IEEE Lebanon sec:on. He is a member in The Ins:tute of Electrical
and Electronics Engineers-IEEE and The Order of Engineers and Architects in tripoli-OEA. He can

Ali Koubayssi

Ali W. Koubayssi received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical
Engineering from the Lebanese International University, Lebanon, in 2014
and 2016, respectively. In 2015, he started his work as a lab instructor at the
Lebanese International University, Lebanon. Eng. Koubayssi has more than
10 research papers that are published in many IEEE conferences and
journals. He has supervised and moderated several undergraduate and
graduate projects. Eng. Koubayssi is a member of the OEA, an IEEE
member, and a member of IEEE Power & Energy Society Membership
(PES). His research interests include fault detection, designing hybrid power
systems, smart grids, and renewable energy systems.
Abdallah El Ghaly
Industrial Ambassador
Abdallah El Ghaly received his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Power and Control Program, M.S.E. degree,
and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Power and Machines Program from Beirut Arab University in Beirut,
Lebanon, in 2013, 2016, and 2022, respectively. He was awarded the Jamal Abdelnaser award from the
university for achieving the highest GPA in 2013. Dr. El Ghaly worked as a senior electrical design
engineer from 2013 to 2019, participating in the design of commercial, industrial, and residential
buildings worldwide, particularly in the Gulf region. He began his academic career at Beirut Arab
University in 2019 as a full-time lecturer. Currently, he is a full-time assistant professor in the Electrical
Power and Machines Program at the Electrical and Computer Engineering department, Faculty of
Engineering, Beirut Arab University. He also serves as a reviewer for the International Journal of
Renewable Energy Research. Dr. El Ghaly is a member of OEA, IEEE, and the PE society. He joined the
IEEE-Lebanon Joint Chapter, IE13/PE31/CAS04/PEL35, as an industrial ambassador. His research
interests include power quality, active power filters, power electronics, and renewable energy systems.
